Cincinnati chili favorite, Gold Star Chili, has partnered with The Cure Starts Now Foundation through an innovative program called “Cans for the Cure”. Through “Cans for the Cure”, Gold Star Chili donates a portion of canned chili sales purchased through local/regional grocery stores to The Cure Starts Now to help raise much needed funds for pediatric brain cancer research. In the coming weeks Gold Star Chili plans to present The Cure Starts Now with $18,000.
“Gold Star Chili believes in The Cure Starts Now Foundation’s commitment to finding a “homerun cure” for cancer, as over the years, so many in our corporate and restaurant community have had to battle this disease in its many forms,” said Charlie Howard, Vice President of Marketing & Brand Development for Gold Star Chili. “For us, the fight against pediatric and other cancers is personal and, part of our overall corporate mission to, ‘Care about our neighbors and communities and actively participate in events and causes that are important to them’.”
Originally started in 2007 in tribute to a local 6-year-old girl named Elena Desserich and her fight against brain cancer, The Cure Starts Now has funded over $2,000,000 in research, awareness and programs in just seven short years. With its focus on a “homerun cure” for all cancers, The Cure Starts Now has also been recognized by The Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, People Magazine, Inside Edition and media worldwide for the inspiration it offers to all that fight cancer.
“Brain cancer is the deadliest of all childhood cancers. We believe it is the “homerun cure” for all cancers, yet it is the most underfunded,” said Brooke Desserich, Executive Director of The Cure Starts Now. “We’re thrilled to partner with Gold Star to create an easy way to fund groundbreaking research and innovative treatments for these children.”
To date over $32,000 has been raised through the “Cans for the Cure” campaign. Gold Star Chili has also been a long-time sponsor of The Cure Starts Now’s annual Once in a Lifetime Gala & Auction.
