Sara Beth was diagnosed at 4 months old in 2019. Her original tumor had a cystic component that crushed her optic nerve, causing permanent low-vision issues such as problems with depth perception, a small field of vision, and problems in overly bright or low light. Her first chemo treatment caused her to lose her hair and her high frequency hearing. Her hair has since grown back but her hearing never will. She now wears hearing aids and has therapy 4x/wk to help with her speech and auditory delays. She is currently on her 4th protocol, which is her first clinical trial drug. It causes extreme sun sensitivity, skin reactions, and the loss of melanin in her skin and hair (pale skin and white hair).

Despite her setbacks, she is a social butterfly who loves other and will win the heart of anyone she meets. She is strong. She is so smart. She’s a warrior princess. She brings love and laughter to our family daily. She adores her older brother. She is sassy. She is beautiful. She is our “Sweet Sara Beth.”
