Results from Grant Funded by The Cure Starts Now in 2010 Mark a Key Objective in Path to Curing DIPG

In 2010, The Cure Starts Now funded a grant for Dr. Mark Souweidane of Weill Cornell Medical College. On Friday, June 15th 2018, groundbreaking results from the Phase I Study of tumor-targeting Convection-Enhanced Delivery (CED) of radio immunotherapy for Diffuse Pontine Glioma in Children were published in Lancet Oncology.

These results validate a hypothesis put forth more than 20 years ago by Dr. Souweidane, and effectively move us one significant step forward in finding the cure for DIPG. The results provide irrefutable evidence that validates convection-enhanced delivery as an efficient method to deliver drugs directly into DIPG tumors with no systemic toxicity.

Put simply, this proves we can now get drugs where they need to be and eliminate them from where they should not be when treating children for DIPG.
